Bonġu Ċeramika! arriva anche a Malta
De-From| Re-Form propone di esaminare la deformazione e trasformazione della ceramica, da forme funzionali a forme pure, e dagli oggetti identificabili a forme astratte. La mostra illustrera come vari artisti maltesi hanno adottato uno stile personale tramite la tecnica e la modellatura dell’argilla, in modo espressivo, staccandosi in diversi gradi da forme convenzionali e ceramiche tradizionali.

Mill – Arts, Culture and Crafts Centre (MACCC)
Il Mulino di Ganu, si trova nella citta di Birkirkara sul’isola di Malta, è stato costruito nel 1724 dal Gran Maestro Antonio Manoel de Vilhena ed è stato utilizzato per la macinazione del grano fino al 1929. Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale il Mulino è stato usato da un fabbro. Dal giugno 1990, sotto la direzzione di Gabriel Caruana, il Mulino opera come centro per l’arte moderna e contemporania, cultura e artiginato. Caruana è considerato uno dei pionieri dell’arte moderna e contemporanea a Malta, che nel corso della sua lunga carriera artistica, ha fatto un nome rispettato per se stesso a livello internazionale nel campo della ceramica, scultura e pittura. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in vari paesi tra cui Regno Unito, Stati Uniti, Germania, Paesi Bassi e l’Italia. La carriera di Caruana si estende oltre 60 anni di attività artistica e viaggi. In riconoscimento di questo, nel 1999 il governo maltese lo onorò con la presentazione della Medaglia per il successo artistico. Nel 2003 l’allora Consiglio Maltese per la Cultura e le Arti onorò Gabriel Caruana con il “Premju Għarfien Kulturali”. Nel 2014 la Società Maltese delle Arti onorò Gabriel Caruana con la medaglia d’oro in riconoscimento del suo contributo come artista e educatore dell’arte. Alla venerabile eta di 87 anni, Caruana lavora rigorosamente ogni giorno.
La Gabriel Caruana Foundation (VO1236) è stata istituita per promuovere e preservare l’eredità artistica di Gabriel Caruana, per incoraggiare e offrire opportunità ad artisti moderni e contemporanei e per sensibilizzare e promuovere l’arte moderna e contemporanea nelle isole maltesi e oltre.

Bonġu Ċeramika! arrives to Malta too…
De-From| Re-Form aims to examine the deformation and transformation of ceramics from functional forms to pure form and from identifiable objects to abstract shape. The exhibition aims to illustrate how various Maltese artists have adopted a personal style and technique and moulded clay in expressive ways breaking away at different degrees from conventional forms and traditional ceramics making.
Dates: 4th June – 17th June
Opening hours:
Saturday 4th June from 10 am to 1pm and 4pm to midnight
Sunday 5th June from 10 am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm to 7pm until the 17th of June.
Mondays and Thursday closed
The exhibition will be attended by volunteers from the Gabriel Caruana Foundation throughout this two week period.

Mill – Arts, Culture and Crafts Centre (MACCC)
The Mill was built in 1724 by Grandmaster Manoel de Vilhena and was used for milling wheat up to 1929. After the Second World War the Mill was used by a blacksmith. The MACCC has been operating under the directorship of Gabriel Caruana since June 1990. Caruana is a pioneer of modern and contemporary art in Malta who, in the course of his long artistic career, has made a respected name for himself internationally in the field of ceramics, sculpture and painting. In Malta he was one of the pioneers of modern art and his work has been exhibited in various countries including the UK, USA, Germany, Netherlands and Italy. Caruana’s career spans over 60 years of intensive artistic activity and travels. In recognition to this in 1999 the Maltese Government honoured him with the presentation of the Medal for Artistic Achievement. In 2003 the then Malta Council for Culture and the Arts honoured Gabriel Caruana with the “Premju Għarfien Kulturali”. In 2014 the Malta Society for Arts awarded Gabriel Caruana the gold medal in recognition of his contribution as an artist and art educator. In spite of a challenging state of health Caruana works rigorously to this day.
The Gabriel Caruana Foundation (VO1236) is registered with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations since April 2016. The GCF has been established to promote and preserve the artistic legacy of Gabriel Caruana, to encourage and provide opportunities for established and emerging modern and or contemporary artists and to raise awareness and promote quality modern and or contemporary art in the Maltese Islands and beyond.
